Sitting within our Chief Information Office is a specialist team of Business Architects ensuring our platforms and systems across the enterprise enable us to remain a leading data and insight-led organisation.

We're currently looking for a 'Big Data' Solutions Architect who'll have a key role that matters in designing big data solutions from a set of diverse functional and non-functional business requirements.

We'll need you to have hands-on extensive experience with HADOOP (from admin and configuration to performance tuning) as you'll be responsible for over-seeing solution designs through their life-cycles into build and deployment.

You'll be adept in both the design and realisation of the technical architecture, embedding the application landscape and managing the development process along with a wide range of stakeholders' expectations.

As a data focussed Architect you'll have an awareness of latest industry technical developments, emerging trends and new technologies having moved into Data Solutions from traditional Solutions Architecture.

In addition to your HADOOP expertise we'll ideally like you to have wider experience working with other big data components such as MapReduce, Hive, HBase, Kafka, Spark, SQOOP, Flume and Cassandra. Additionally any experience with HortonWorks HADOOP distribution would be a huge advantage.

We'll also need you to have a firm understanding of major programming/scripting languages such as Java, Linux, PHP, Ruby, Python and/or R. Ideally you'll have experience in designing solutions for large data warehouses with a good understanding of both cluster and parallel architecture.

In return you'll enjoy our total commitment to your ongoing personal and professional development. Making you feel valued is important, so we're also one of the first major employers to promote flexible working to all its employees - we understand the importance of good work-life balance.

We offer a competitive salary, performance-related bonus, a flexible benefits system to suit your lifestyle, contributory pension scheme and wider colleague benefits from private health to colleague products and share schemes.

So if working on some of the largest big data projects around appeals and you've the background and skills we're seeking then get in touch, we'd like to hear from you…
