Job Summary: An award winning Healthcare IT leader service delivery improvement initiative, a SWAT team is being formed to uplift the resilience of critical healthcare IT systems. This team will comprise of two technical leads (architects) and two database leads (DBA). Their task is to review, automate, and improve existing procedures required for resilience, such as housekeeping, error detection, failure detection, recovery steps, shakedown testing steps and performance tuning. The SWAT team members will work with the existing application support and infrastructure teams to understand the pain points and gaps. The SWAT team will also be called on during outages, to assist with troubleshooting and workarounds.

Roles and Responsibilities

The Database Lead (Application DBA) will:

  • Work with application and infrastructure teams to identify database related performance problems and resilience issues
  • Develop the overall approach for solving these problems, and work with the teams to agree on priorities, scope and schedule
  • Develop the procedures and scripts for performance monitoring and tuning
  • Develop the procedures and scripts to automate recovery from failover so as to minimize downtime
  • Teach the existing application and infrastructure teams how they should use, maintain and manage these procedures and scripts
  • Assist the team with troubleshooting and performance tuning when called upon
  • Put together an overall framework of reusable scripts, monitoring and troubleshooting

Skills and Experience
  • Supporting high volume online application systems, preferably across different industries
  • Experience with troubleshooting performance issues, tuning databases, and facilitating recovery from failure
  • Strong skills with reviewing and identifying performance problems in application code
  • Certification as Oracle DBA and SQLServer DBA
  • Interest and experience in non-relational databases, application development, data analytics
