Project Manager- Digital and Innovation with Commodity MNC

  • Has minimum of 10 years or more, with quant background, machine learning experience and commodity trading industry exposure (gained with commodity firms or investment banking).
  • Has the machine learning and Agile exposure. Has experience talking to traders/business intelligence colleagues and work on collecting data, performing digital analytics, developing data insights,  applying predictive models
  • Very good knowledge about optimisation, statistical, mathematical modelling and algorithmic trading. Know predictive analytics and how to apply different algorithms to commodity trading models.

Our client is a renowned and global commodity trading MNC.

 

For this role, you will be part of a Digital Hive which was established in 2018 to embed innovative practices and deliver digital initiatives. You report to the global head of digital and innovation (based in HQ). As a PM, you act as a conduit between the traders and the data scientists/developers.

 

Working closely with teams across the BU and the commodity marketing/trading group, you are part of the team responsible for identifying the digital needs of the BU and developing innovative products and initiatives which deliver commercial returns to the business.  The team is also responsible for introducing the Marketing BU to new ways of working which enable innovation and agility, and the sponsorship and development of the digital community within the Marketing BU.

 

For this role, you are part of the Traders Team and is part of  a global innovation team with the opportunity to present your ideas that will have an value adding impact on the P&L of the business.

 

PURPOSE

Support the commodity marketing/trading and team to identify the incremental value generating new opportunities.

 

Define a strategic solution roadmap for the commodity desk to be equipped with the required trading analytic tools or any other tools which help to traders to optimize commercial performance. Perform detailed analysis on different solution options and help to select the optimum one for the organization.

 

Manage business analysts, developers and data scientists assigned to the project to deliver agreed project scope and ensure that the solutions are fit to purpose to optimize commercial performance.

 

Support the rollout of new ways of working to commodity marketing teams and functions, to enable innovation and agility within the Marketing BU.

 

Play a leading role in sponsoring and developing the digital community within the Marketing BU.

 

TYPICAL TASKS

Concept Development and Design

  • Explore new business opportunities which are enabled with Digital solutions, AI, Data Science. Contribute to shape Marketing Digital Solution Roadmap. Explore optimisation models, statistical and mathematical models and new technologies in data, AI, machine learning to shape the strategic solution roadmap for marketing and trading desks- specially for front office and end to end commodity supply chain. Define specifics for each commodity trading desk by understanding their portfolio, trading model and risk profile
  • Explore external industry, research competitive, commercial and digital trends that can impact the firm including identifying new digital technologies and potential applications and innovative ways of working. Research new external digital practices and technologies, choose the ones that would be beneficial for the firm
  • Work with the Marketing BU to identify potential value creating digital opportunities
  • Work closely with product owners, developers and subject matter experts to develop and design specific digital solutions and products

 

Concept Implementation (Project/ Programme Management) 

  • Create a portfolio of projects which aim to deliver incremental commercial value
  • Create project teams with the resources selected from Digital Hive team and business teams to deliver agreed solutions
  • Take responsibility for the definition, documentation and successful completion of major projects directing and counselling project team members and advising clients/users as necessary on all phases.
  • Manage the complex quantitative projects by understanding the mathematical and statistical solutions and ensure that the solutions developed solves read business problems and optimised commercial outcome
  • Manage one of multiple related projects as a portfolio to build and implement digital concepts
  • Support the Digital Plan development process and the implementation of the digital themes
  • Foster approaches such as such as Agile, Design Thinking, Improving Customer Experience which are key for the success of Digital Hive. Apply Design Thinking to ensure the adherence to business requirements 
  • Work with IM and other support teams to manage the implementation of concepts and products, including the delivery of acceptable test scenarios and scripts

 

Leading Change - Implementation 

  • Work with product owner and other business stakeholders. Help them to understand Digital solutions and how they can improve their business results 
  • Provide training to users where needed
  • Continuously promote Digital ideas. Showcase Digital products and their benefits

 

Value Realization 

  • Analyse and measure the success of digital projects to ensure projects return value to the business
  • Develop ways of monitoring financial results of the digital solutions. Find ways of further improving results

 

Stakeholder Engagement and Management

  • Maintain relationships with key internal and external partners including commodity marketing teams, Marketing BU functions, Group functions (i.e. Group Analytics) and  Marketing Information Management team
  • Drive active stakeholder engagement to align on the best practice concepts and solutions, and to make sure that the future trends and risks are considered and mitigated.

 

Innovative Ways of Working

  • Support the development of innovative and agile ways of working within the Marketing BU
  • Actively promote and encourage the development of digital and ‘agile’ skillsets within the Digital Hive
  • Research new industry trends particularly in AI, Machine Learning and Data Analytics and identify industry best practices to further progress and develop digital best practice and innovative ways of working within the Marketing BU
  • Leverage learnings from across commodity marketing teams and functions to create and share repeatable concepts and ways of working where appropriate

 

Requirements:

  • Degree in Business, Economics, Data Science or IT Technology area. Has minimum of 10 years or more, with quant background, machine learning experience and commodity trading industry exposure (gained with commodity firms or investment banking).
  • Has the machine learning and Agile exposure. Has experience talking to traders/business intelligence colleagues and work on collecting data, performing digital analytics, developing data insights,  applying predictive models
  • Has experience supporting the marketing and front office trading business gained in commodity trading/investment banking
  • Has strong  communication skills, consulting skills and stakeholder management skills.
  • Very good knowledge about optimisation, statistical, mathematical modelling and algorithmic trading. Predictive analytics and how to apply different algorithms to commodity trading models.
  • Good understanding of digital technologies such as AI, machine learning and applications. Understand the results of these models, analyse deviations and propose solutions to refine the models and able to explain in business context
  • Domain knowledge of commodities covering front office trading
  • Competent across the range of tools and frameworks of strategic and financial analysis and project management
  • Experience of agile project management practices and management of multi-disciplinary, geographically diverse teams
  • Stakeholder engagement to enable alignment with stakeholders
  • Occasional travel to other offices (less than 3 trips a year)
