Position Overview

The primary objective of Market Risk Management (MRM) is to ensure that business units of the bank optimise the risk-reward relationship and do not expose it to unacceptable losses. This objective drives all of the activities conducted within MRM and we work closely with risk takers, risk managers and control and support groups in the process to ensure these objectives can be met.

As the Market Risk Manager you will monitor all trading positions and market risks in FIC NJA, engage with traders, follow market activity, limit management and stress testing, review and approve large trades, communicate with senior MRM and trading management, manage junior staff. Active involvement in key MRM and FO CTB projects, model and methodology changes, annual risk ID and limit reviews, risk & pnl diagnostics and reviews. Manage regulatory and audit requirements.

Key responsibilities:

  • Daily monitoring of Non-Japan Asia (NJA) risk positions (all FX and rates products)
  • Management of risk limits and market risk metrics (VaR, SVaR, Stress testing), including Volcker risk metrics / inventory management
  • Review large trades, New Product Approval (NPAs) / New Transaction Approvals (NTA)
  • Monitor rates/FX risk in non-core or non-trading FIC books (accrual books, Treasury/Pool)
  • Country MRM responsibilities for various NJA locations
  • Stakeholder management with Senior Management, Front Office and Regulators
  • Assist APAC FIC head monitor and review overall APAC FIC risk exposures, run ad-hoc stress tests
  • Daily review of APAC economic, fixed income and FX market news and price movements
  • Report preparation and communication to senior MRM management
  • Actively engage with traders on risks, portfolio correlations, limit issues, trader meetings, and position adjustments into key risk events when necessary
  • Manage junior MRMs and interface with Risk Ops staff

Assist in the following:
  • Deep dive portfolio reviews
  • Risks Not In VAR (RNIV), Risks Not In Economic Capital (RNIEC), Risks Not Well Captured (RNWC) reviews
  • Liaise with Stress Testing team for stress results, shock calibrations
  • Highlight gaps and weaknesses in current coverage, measurement and/or methodologies
  • Risk factor ID reviews
  • Model and methodology awareness and key liaison point with model VAL and methodology staff
  • Historical Simulation and FRTB project planning/ preparation
  • Risk and P&L diagnostics
  • Audit and regulatory inspection meetings and preparation

Key skills & qualifications:
  • University educated, preferably to at least Masters level, in a quantitative discipline
  • Established experience (> 10 years) in market risk management or equivalent experience in an investment bank is essential, and exposure to a trading environment will be highly regarded
  • Ideally will have had exposure to a number of asset classes but mainly Fixed Income and FX
  • The individual must have a solid understanding of derivatives products
  • A strong understanding of derivative products, their pricing and risk profile is a requirement
  • Be able to interact and build relationships with both senior trading and risk staff
  • A problem solver who is able to work independently and be willing to work outside of normal office hours
