Specialist- Operational Risk Project role with Commodity trading MNC

  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in Operational Risk and Governance, or Business Management or Audit with focus on commodities
  • Ideally experience in a trading environment and/ or Commercial/investment banking/ law/ financial services background
  • An understanding of the operations, end to end processes and document flow in a physical commodity trading environment (including front to back trading process)

 

Our client is an international commodity MNC.   For this role, you are tasked to ensure all Marketing (including trading) teams strictly adhere to a well-designed and implemented Marketing Operational Risk and Governance Framework, resulting in a well-governed Marketing organisation.

 

TYPICAL TASKS

Ownership

  • Assists the Manager Governance & Operational Risk with the resolution of control issues, project work and framework initiatives
  • Contribute to the SOx project initiative  in Marketing (including trading), acting  between Marketing and all relevant internal and external project stakeholders
  • Ensure that all project related matters are escalated as appropriate the Manager Governance & Operational Risk

 

Operational Risk

  • Be an advisor to resolve issues and facilitate discussions for optimally effective controls/process design as well as identify opportunities for control/process improvements.
  • Participate to find solutions for more effective and efficient management of risk, controls or processes
  • Engage with stakeholders to review and perform gap assessments on control frameworks
  • Ad hoc support to members of the senior management team in transversal projects

 

Project Leadership

  • Be a Subject Matter Expert in Sarbanes Oxley (SOx) compliance, risk and controls standards, and business process best practices
  • Assist colleagues in the technical changes to accounting practices, reporting and controls, in line with SOx changes
  • Enhance existing controls and perform analysis to identify gaps in the control coverage, implementing new controls where required
  • Support producing procedures and process documentation within the Marketing business
  • Support the Marketing in fulfilling their SOx control requirements in their day-to-day business operations
  • Be recognized as an expert on Marketing financial control requirements, and best practice and champion standardisation of controls and activities.
  • Co-ordinate internal meetings where required in order to facilitate progress on initiatives and projects

 

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate across cross-functional teams within the business to ensure the successful resolution of project issues and dependency management
  • Management of 3rd Party suppliers and internal delivery teams within the project scope (if appropriate)
  • Engage in change management, ensuring any changes to scope are assessed for impact and follow a clear and effective change process

 

System Development

  • Support IM/ IT  team in the design and development of appropriate systems to capture process and work practice changes

 

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Post graduate qualifications in relevant field such as Accounting, Economics or Law
  • ACA/ CIMA qualified, preferably Big 4 or from a Legal Background
  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience in Operational Risk and Governance, or Business Management or Audit with focus on commodities
  • Ideally experience in a trading environment and/ or Commercial/investment banking/ law/ financial services background
  • Experience in developing control frameworks in trading environments with excellent understanding of front to back trading process and teams.
  • An understanding of the operations, end to end processes and document flow in a physical commodity trading environment.
  • A clear understanding of best practice organisational design and allocation of roles and responsibilities.
  • A good understanding of governance related controls.
  • A good understanding of organisational structure design.
  • Experience within a complex/ matrix organisation across different countries and jurisdictions, cultures, interfacing with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Highly independent and accountable
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Fluent written and spoken English as a pre-requisite.
  • Proven ability to prioritise and work effectively to meet deadlines
  • Has strong commercial Reasoning and commodity knowledge.
  • Good with negotiation and Influencing skills
