Assistant General Counsel (Junior Lawyer)

The Role: S&P Global Platts is seeking a junior Lawyer effective, practical and business-oriented lawyer to join its Legal team as an Assistant General Counsel based in London. In this role, you will provide the best-in-class legal support to S&P Global Platts.


  • Provide legal advice and support on commercial relationships, including exchange relationships, client and vendor negotiations.
  • Advise the business on important legal issues facing the S&P Global Platts business, including antitrust, employment, privacy (including GDPR), intellectual property and trade secrets law.
  • Provide support in advising the business on emerging legal and regulatory risks.
  • Assist with managing Platts' trademark portfolio.
  • Manage outside counsel as appropriate.
  • Provide support on M&A transactions (such as due diligence, reviewing transaction documents)
  • Work with the S&P Global Legal Department Centers of Excellence on a variety of legal matters concerning the S&P Global Platts business.
  • Advise the new product development team on legal issues relating to new product offerings and provide ongoing legal support with regard to existing products and product modifications.
  • Advise on corporate matters relating to Platts' legal entities, such as corporate reorganisations and intercompany arrangements
  • Support and assist in use of new Platts' contract management database

Business & Functional Knowledge:
  • Education: Law degree. Qualified as a lawyer in U.S., England and Wales or other common law jurisdiction.
  • 3+ years PQE with proven legal experience either in-house or at a major law firm practicing commercial law.
  • Remain educated on legal developments impacting the business.

Scope & Impact:
  • Provide effective, practical, business-oriented legal support for the business globally.
  • Be a team-oriented resource for the business and Legal Department leadership.
  • Provide support for new product initiatives and new business relationships.

  • Partner with business executives to provide best-in-class legal support to S&P Global Platts
  • Escalate significant matters to Legal Department senior management.
  • Partner with S&P Global specialized lawyers as needed (e.g., employment, M&A, litigation, corporate secretarial).
  • Partner with S&P Global Platts Compliance and Risk Teams as necessary.
