Data Analyst

The Role:

Data Management is responsible for delivering business critical data across multiple stakeholders and applications through services including Data Content, Portfolio Assurance, Market Data Services and Data Governance.

The role represents an excellent opportunity to be part of the critical Data Content team, focused on delivering accurate data to all business units in a timely manner. It also provides a great opportunity to develop an understanding of the M&G business and the data environment which supports it.

The successful candidate will be a strong team player with an excellent attitude, wanting to learn how the Data Content team deliver to high standards daily and get involved from the outset.

  • Accountable for providing a quality service or product to customers and stakeholders, using skills/experience built through significant practical experience or training
  • Works within established frameworks and procedures, with the freedom to interpret them to solve a range of problems
  • Delivers outputs that are clearly defined, using discretion over how to achieve them
  • Makes suggestions for improvements to the work of the team, based on previous experience and knowledge of similar situations

Key Responsibilities:

  • Liaising with Data Management’s key stakeholders including Front Office, Compliance, Risk Monitoring, Client Reporting and Investment Operations.
  • Collecting and verifying data from appropriate sources, ensuring accurate and timely information is supplied to the business.
  • Challenging current processes, driving change, proactively realising opportunities for improvements across Data Management and utilising VBA skills where applicable to help see these initiatives through.
  • Analysing large data sets to identify data quality issues and ensure they are resolved in a timely manner. Implementing ongoing data quality controls to mitigate these issues going forward.
  • Daily creation and maintenance of multiple asset types and data sets to support Data Management’s key stakeholders.
  • Supporting the implementation of controls and procedures throughout the Data Content team.
  • Investigating data issues, working with data analysts and management to establish an appropriate resolution.
  • Ensuring data requirements are fully supported within all required systems.

Key Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Takes pride in working to a high standard, and thrives within a changing environment, showing initiative and drive.
  • Proactive self-starter, with the ability to identify problems and have the drive to follow them through to resolution.
  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to record and communicate clearly and effectively, both written and orally.
  • Displays understanding of the investment industry with good product knowledge.
  • Appreciation of the requirements of an operational control environment.
  • Good understanding of valuations and instruments across various asset classes (e.g. Fixed Income, Equities, ETD & OTC Derivatives, Corporate Actions and their valuations) and experience within an operational or investment role
  • Knowledge of financial and reference data (i.e. Securities, Position, Transaction, Fund, Benchmark, Credit Rating, Counterparty)
  • Excellent attention to detail, and ability to work efficiently to set deadlines.
  • Ability to generate and maintain positive relationships within the team and across the business.
  • Good working knowledge of Bloomberg, Refinitiv, OMGEO Alert and Microsoft Office.
  • An understanding of the IT infrastructure and data environment.
  • Knowledge of clients, products and the regulations under which they operate.
  • Advanced Excel skills including the ability to use VBA/SQL
  • Relevant qualifications such as IOC / IMC.
