We’re making big changes at Transport for London (TfL). Our finance function is evolving to ensure a sharp focus on TfL’s core business priorities. We’re doing this by building a new division that acts as the ‘commercial brain’ to the business integrating finance, procurement and supply chain to provide stronger strategic and commercial excellence across our business.
TfL plays a key role in shaping what life is like in London. Our transport infrastructure and public transport network is admired around the world. We are literally changing London for the future – making it one of the best cities to live, work and visit.
Over 31 million journeys are made across our transport network every day and we do all that we can to keep our city moving, growing and working. To meet the needs of our customers, now and for the future, we’re providing the modern and affordable transport network London needs. We are also the third largest landowner in London, are responsible for Europe’s largest infrastructure project, and own 20% of all outdoor advertising space in the UK!
To support this, our multi-billion pound programme to make our services more reliable, frequent and accessible includes introducing new trains, rebuilding some of the busiest stations, and investing in congestion and air quality initiatives on our roads through our healthy streets approach.
About the role
The Legal Entity Controller will be key to developing and driving improvements in the technical accuracy and insightfulness of the Group’s divisional financial reporting. Pivotal to this role will be developing standardised processes and internal reports for our actual and forecast divisional balance sheets that enable senior leadership teams to make informed and insightful decisions; whilst leading and delivering innovation and continuous improvement in our core financial processes and systems.
As part of the Group Tax and Financial Accounting team, you will be responsible for driving the technical accuracy of all divisional financial reporting, and for ensuring compliance with Group Accounting Policies in both our historic and forward looking reports. You’ll lead the compilation of the divisional consolidated statutory financial reports, ensuring analysis is provided to drive commercial and strategic decision making and to add business value. You will also lead on the preparation of all forward-looking balance sheet information, including Business Plans and Budget, with a focus on ensuring forecast cash and reserves positions are accurate and reliable.
This is a senior level leadership role and is central in ensuring that TfL can deliver the Mayor’s manifesto commitment to increase value for money and improve commercial capability for the future.
You’ll likely be an experienced commercially savvy, and technically strong, Finance Leader, already operating at a senior level within a large £mutli million complex operational organisation. You’re driven to add value to the business and improve business efficiency. You’ll ideally be a qualified Accountant (ICAEW, ACCA OR CIMA) with extensive experience in financial reporting for, and in driving forward process improvements in, a large group.
You’ll have the gravitas to influence right up to board level, and communication skills that will enable you to tailor your message across a broad variety of stakeholders with and without finance backgrounds. You’ll have an ability to translate complex technical requirements into a practical language that will help you deliver results, and a personal focus that will enable you to drive forward improvements across teams.
Alongside an extremely strong finance background, ideally within commercially driven organisations, you’ll also be continuously championing and leading by example, showing strong leadership behaviours. As we are transforming it is crucial for our leaders to display positive leadership behaviours for our next cohort of internal leaders to look and aspire to and our current stakeholders to collaborate with.
We are looking for an established finance leader who can inspire diverse teams and drive excellence across the CFO function. You’ll be a strategic and astute individual, able to combine technical strengths with market insight, finance leadership and a strong risk management ethos in all that you do.
Efficiency, productivity, innovation and customer service lie at the heart of TfL. We are excited about the journey we’re on and we are looking for leaders who believe in our journey too.
