Hedge fund openings in Shanghai
Press reports suggest that Tribeca Capital, Citigroup's $1.8bn in-house hedge fund, is preparing to open an office in the Chinese City.
Pakistan's Daily Times reports that Tribeca currently employs 23 hedge fund managers globally, and aims to have 26-27 by the end of this year, including staff in the new Shanghai office.
Chief executive Tanya Styblo Beder is quoted as saying the company would love to hire a Japanese long/short equity team that 'walks on water'. In China she is looking for people with quantitative analysis skills.
Beder says students graduating with these skills are now more inclined to remain in China than to work abroad.
Tribeca's Singapore office, which was opened last year, now employs six people.
