Growing demand for hedge funds staff in Asia
As the finance industry picks up pace in Asia, Asian financial centres such as Hong Kong and Singapore are eager to attract hedge funds.
Asian hedge-fund assets nearly doubled to US$115 billion in February from a year earlier, according to Hedge Fund Intelligence.
Michael di Cicco, director of Hong Kong-based search firm Global Sage, says "The amount of work we're doing with hedge funds has gone up 60%-70% compared with last year. This is mainly with heads of new businesses who are looking for people to invest money rather than to market the funds."
Starting with senior hires, di Cicco says hedge funds are also looking for country and regional heads to work on products such as distressed debt and real estate funds. He says "You are seeing a lot of hiring of operational support - CFOs, COOS, and compliance people."
The funds are looking for people with a combination of Asian, European and US experience. Di Cicco says, "Candidates will need either local market experience or products experience."
