Private equity streams back to Singapore

Private equity firms are coming back to the island. And guess what? Demand for staff is increasing.

Stanley Teo, manager of the financial services division at Michael Page International in Singapore, tells us that hiring is predominantly at analyst and associate level, with some selective demand for vice president-level executives. "With PE firms streaming in, pay levels are comparable with bulge-bracket global investment banks in Singapore," he says.

An investment analyst with five years' experience would be getting US$100k as a base, with bonus levels varying. One source tells eFinancialCareers that bonuses of 50% to 100% and sometimes upwards have been paid. He tells us analysts tend to favour PE funds that have the best deal flow and therefore the best bonus potential.

According to a recent report in Business Times Singapore, private equity funds in Asia raised US$6.8bn in the first six months of 2006, up 44% from the previous year.

Private equity firms that have opened offices in Singapore this year include AXA Private Equity, Newbridge Capital and Axiom Asia.
