DBS hires Commerzbank veteran as executive director

Bankim Kapur, a Singapore-based structured finance veteran, has joined DBS as an executive director.

He is focused on central treasury and corporate structuring, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Kapur previously spent more than 11 years at Commerzbank, in London and then Singapore, latterly as a director in its lending division, covering structured and specialised finance.

The London Business School graduate began his career as a chartered accountant at Deloitte in London, before moving to Barclays in 2007 for a four-year stint in its structured capital markets division.

His move to DBS is part of a growing trend, which we highlighted earlier this week, involving bankers from global banks moving to Singapore’s three local banks, the largest of which is DBS.

In September, for example, DBS Asia Capital, the Singaporean firm’s capital markets arm in Hong Kong and China, hired financial-sponsors specialist Lindsay Chu from Nomura as a managing director.

As a rule, Singaporean firms appeal because of their profitability – DBS reached a record quarterly profit in Q3 – and job stability.
