Description
Responsible for the maintenance of existing SQL Server databases, including creating and maintaining SQL reports. This role manages data warehouse activities, supports data analysis, resolves software issues, maintains web and/or desktop applications, and supports integration of data across systems. The position also partners with internal teams to improve reporting, automate manual processes, maintain data integrity, and support business decisions through accurate and timely data insights.
Key Responsibilities
Database Development, Maintenance & Optimization
- Develop high-quality database solutions that support operational and business needs.
- Develop, implement, maintain, and optimize stored procedures and functions using T-SQL.
- Maintain existing SQL Server databases and manage data warehouse-related activities.
- Analyze, audit, modify, and amend data in systems as requested by team members and business stakeholders.
- Respond to critical database incidents while ensuring the integrity of systems and data.
Reporting, Data Migration & Integration
- Create, modify, and design SQL Server Reporting Services reports, data exports and imports, and SQL Server Integration Services packages.
- Develop procedures and scripts for data migration.
- Maintain file transfers and support external data exchange processes.
- Assist with development efforts to define and automate data gathering, analysis, and reporting processes.
- Investigate exceptions related to asset movements.
Applications, Systems Support & Change Management
- Resolve software issues and maintain existing web and/or desktop applications.
- Learn, maintain, and upgrade existing company systems as needed.
- Develop new applications as requested to improve organizational productivity and processes, participating in the database development process from inception through delivery.
- Maintain standards consistent with current IT protocols and procedures and implement action plans as needed for change management.
- Communicate database changes to affected parties and support change management activities.
Data Analysis, Compliance & Business Support
- Analyze and comprehend state requirements and rules, including COBC and EDI, to maintain and update existing SQL code as needed.
- Comprehend workers' compensation, liability claims, and medical data to correctly interpret trends that support customer service and business decisions.
- Provide process improvements by automating manual processes.
- Train employees in the proper use of databases.
- Work effectively with project management, support, and other internal departments
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related subject; or equivalent experience. Minimum of three years of experience as an SQL Developer or similar role.
- Minimum of three years of experience writing reports in SSRS.
- Minimum of one year of .NET programming experience.
- Excellent understanding and working knowledge of T-SQL programming and Microsoft SQL Server. Expert-level SQL analytical skills and ability to work with large amounts of data, review facts and figures, and analyze information to identify conclusions.
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and communicate fluently in English.
- Power BI, Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric, and Power Apps experience preferred.
- Insurance industry experience is a plus.
