Cementitious Products Trader
Position Overview
We are seeking an entrepreneurial and commercially driven Cementitious Products Trader to lead the expansion of our trading business across Asia. The successful candidate will be responsible for originating, negotiating, and executing physical trades in products including Limestone, Gabbro, Gypsum, Clinker, Fly Ash, Slag, and Cement.
This is a front-office commercial role with full responsibility for developing supplier and customer relationships, identifying profitable trading opportunities, managing transaction execution, and driving business growth across regional markets. The role requires strong market intelligence, commercial acumen, and the ability to manage the entire trading lifecycle from origination through to contract fulfillment.
Key Responsibilities
Trading & Business Development
- Develop and grow the company's Cementitious Products trading business across Asia.
- Originate and execute physical trading opportunities involving limestone, gabbro, gypsum, clinker, fly ash, slag, cement, and related construction materials.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with producers, distributors, industrial consumers, traders, and other key market participants.
- Identify new markets, customers, and supply sources to expand trading volumes and enhance profitability.
- Negotiate commercial terms including pricing, payment structures, logistics arrangements, and contractual agreements.
- Manage the complete trade lifecycle from origination and negotiation through execution and settlement.
- Ensure all transactions are accurately recorded and maintained within internal trading systems.
Market Analysis & Commercial Strategy
- Monitor regional and global market developments, supply-demand fundamentals, pricing trends, freight movements, and competitive dynamics.
- Conduct market research and identify emerging opportunities across existing and new geographies.
- Develop and implement strategies to maximize trade margins and optimize trade flows.
- Provide regular market intelligence, commercial updates, and business recommendations to senior management.
- Evaluate macroeconomic, regulatory, geopolitical, and industry developments impacting the cementitious products sector.
Trade Execution & Stakeholder Management
- Work closely with Trade Operations teams to ensure seamless execution of contracts, shipping schedules, trade finance instruments, and logistics arrangements.
- Coordinate with Credit, Risk, Finance, and Compliance teams to ensure transactions are executed within approved business parameters.
- Resolve operational issues and manage contractual performance throughout the supply chain.
- Maintain strong relationships with logistics providers, shipping companies, ports, and other service providers.
Risk Management & Compliance
- Ensure all trading activities comply with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and international trade regulations.
- Operate within approved trading mandates and risk limits.
- Support counterparty onboarding and due diligence processes, including KYC and AML requirements.
- Maintain proper trade documentation and support internal and external audit requirements.
- Identify and manage commercial, operational, and counterparty risks associated with trading activities.
Requirements
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of physical trading experience within cementitious products, construction materials, bulk commodities, or related sectors.
- Proven track record managing annual trading volumes of at least 1 million metric tonnes within Asian markets.
- Demonstrated experience in sourcing, origination, customer development, contract negotiation, and trade execution.
Market & Industry Knowledge
- Strong understanding of the cementitious products value chain, including production, logistics, pricing mechanisms, and market dynamics.
- In-depth knowledge of Asian import and export markets for clinker, cement, gypsum, limestone, slag, fly ash, and related products.
- Familiarity with shipping, freight markets, trade finance, and international commercial terms.
Commercial Skills
- Strong business development and origination capabilities with an established network of suppliers, customers, traders, brokers, and logistics providers.
- Excellent negotiation, relationship management, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to identify and capitalize on commercial opportunities.
Additional Requirements
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Fluency in English is required; additional Asian language capabilities would be advantageous.
- Willingness and flexibility to travel internationally as required.
- Based in, or willing to relocate to, a key trading hub within Asia.
Preferred Profile
- Established trader with an existing network across Asian cementitious products markets.
- Strong origination background with a demonstrated ability to independently develop and grow trading books.
- Experience managing both commercial and operational aspects of physical commodity transactions.
