We are supporting an international trading house in their search for a Base Metals Traffic Operator to join their Geneva office. This is a key hire within the operations function, supporting the end-to-end execution of physical base metals trades across global markets.
The role will focus on managing the full logistics lifecycle across both inland and seaborne transportation, ensuring smooth execution from contract through to final delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Managing end-to-end trade execution across base metals (e.g. copper, aluminium, zinc, lead)
- Coordinating inland logistics (road, rail) and seaborne shipments (bulk and containerised)
- Handling contracts, shipping documentation, and ensuring compliance with contractual terms
- Liaising with traders, counterparties, shipping lines, terminals, and inspection companies
- Monitoring shipment progress, resolving operational issues, and mitigating delays
- Managing inventory movements, storage, and warehouse coordination
- Overseeing invoices, payments, and cost control related to logistics and freight
- Ensuring compliance with internal controls, regulatory requirements, and risk procedures
Candidate Profile:
- 2–5 years’ experience in trade operations/traffic within base metals or wider commodities
- Strong experience managing end-to-end physical trade execution
- Proven exposure to both inland logistics and seaborne transport
- Familiarity with shipping documentation, Incoterms, and contract structures
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously
- Proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with strong attention to detail
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, commercial trading environment
