Financial Advisor Trainee

Fintro Leicester, United Kingdom
Financial Advisor Trainee
Job Specification: Trainee Financial Advisor

Position: Trainee Financial Advisor

Location: Leicester

Reporting To: Senior Financial Adviser / Practice Principal

Salary: Competitive (dependent on experience and completed exams) + Benefits

Career Goal: Attainment of Competent Adviser Status (CAS) as an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA)

Job Summary

We are seeking an ambitious, driven, and technically capable individual to join our practice as a Trainee Financial Advisor . This is a pivotal career-development role designed for professionals who are committed to transitioning into a fully qualified, client-facing advisory role.

You will work closely alongside our senior advisory team, gaining hands-on exposure to complex client cases, financial planning strategies, and client relationship management, whilst actively working towards your Competent Adviser Status (CAS) .

Our Career Progression Pathway

We believe in structured career development. Your entry point and initial job title within our firm will be determined during the interview stage, based on the specific industry examinations you have completed and your practical experience to date.

Our internal progression pathway is structured as follows:

[IFA Administrator] ➔ [Trainee Paraplanner] ➔ [Paraplanner] ➔ [Trainee Financial Advisor]

  • Flexible Entry Criteria: To be considered directly for the Trainee Financial Advisor role, you will normally be expected to have achieved at least two relevant professional examinations (e.g., CII RO exams). However, we assess each candidate's technical profile individually.
  • Direct Appointment: If you have already completed all required industry examinations (such as the full Level 4 Diploma), we will actively consider appointing you directly into this Trainee Advisor role to begin your practical transition to CAS.

Key Responsibilities

As a Trainee Financial Advisor, you will bridge the gap between technical preparation and client advice. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Adviser Shadowing & Client Relations: Attend client meetings alongside senior advisers, draft meeting minutes, capture key client objectives, and support ongoing client communication.
  • Case Preparation: Work closely with the Paraplanning team to review client files, gather necessary policy information, and assist in structuring bespoke advice solutions.
  • Suitability & Research: Assist in researching financial products, investment platforms, and tax-planning strategies, ensuring all recommendations align with client risk profiles.
  • Compliance & Best Practice: Ensure all file preparation, client files, and business submission procedures adhere strictly to FCA regulations and company compliance guidelines.
  • Professional Development: Maintain a rigorous commitment to your professional studies and practical assessment criteria to achieve CAS status as an Independent Financial Adviser.

Skills & Experience Required
  • Qualifications: Ideally holding a minimum of two relevant industry exams (e.g., RO1, RO2, RO3 etc.) or holding a completed Level 4 Diploma (CII/PFS or DipFA). Qualifications will be fully assessed at the interview stage.
  • Industry Experience: A solid foundation within a wealth management or IFA environment (ideally as an experienced Paraplanner or Senior Administrator) is highly beneficial.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Strong numerical reasoning and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written communication, with the ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly.
  • Familiarity with back-office systems (e.g., Intelligent Office, Adviser Office) and research tools is an advantage.
  • Key Attributes: High integrity, exceptional interpersonal skills, a client-first mindset, and the self-discipline required to balance work with professional development.

What We Offer
  • Direct Route to CAS: A clearly defined, highly structured pathway to becoming a fully competent, practicing Independent Financial Adviser.
  • Mentorship: Direct mentorship and guidance from experienced, highly successful Senior IFAs.
  • Study Support: Ongoing financial support and study leave for relevant professional exams and qualifications.
  • A Highly Supportive Culture: Join a collaborative, professional team environment that values internal promotion and individual success.
  • Competitive Package: A competitive salary tailored to your current qualification level, alongside an attractive benefits package.
