Our Secure Estate team acts primarily for private prison and custodial organisations, helping them manage the legal, regulatory and reputational issues arising from deaths in custody, judicial review /prisoner claims, human rights challenges and other litigation connected with the operation of prisons and detention facilities.

The Role

The Secure Estate Team Paralegal role supports lawyers on inquests, civil claims, disclosure exercises, witness evidence and litigation involving HM Prison & Probation Service and other custodial bodies.

As a Paralegal within our Secure Estate Team, you will support Partners, Legal Directors, Senior Associates and Associates in the management of cases including litigated and pre-litigated claims. The role offers exposure to complex and sensitive matters, providing an excellent platform for career development.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Assisting with the management of prison-related litigation matters.
• Reviewing and analysing legal documents, medical records and evidence.
• Drafting correspondence, court documents and witness statements.
• Preparing instructions to Counsel and experts.
• Conducting legal research and preparing case summaries.
• Liaising with clients, witnesses, experts and other stakeholders.
• Managing court deadlines and maintaining accurate case records.
• Supporting the team with disclosure exercises and document review projects.
• Assisting with trial preparation and hearing bundles.
