About the Role
A nationally recognized law firm is seeking a Commercial Litigation Associate to join its Los Angeles office. This opportunity offers exposure to sophisticated business disputes on behalf of a diverse client base ranging from emerging companies to national and multinational corporations.
The ideal candidate will have strong litigation experience and a desire to work on complex commercial matters involving corporate governance, business disputes, regulatory issues, professional services firms, financial institutions, real estate interests, and other high-stakes litigation. Associates will work closely with experienced litigators while receiving meaningful responsibility, direct client exposure, and opportunities to develop courtroom and deposition experience.
This position is well-suited for an attorney who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys tackling complex legal issues, and is looking to continue building a long-term career within a premier commercial litigation practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage substantive responsibilities across all phases of commercial litigation
- Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other litigation-related filings
- Conduct legal research and prepare persuasive written analyses
- Handle fact investigation and case development
- Manage traditional and electronic discovery processes
- Assist with and/or take and defend depositions
- Prepare witnesses and attorneys for hearings, arbitrations, mediations, and trial
- Appear before state and federal courts as responsibilities develop
- Collaborate with clients and internal teams to develop litigation strategy and achieve favorable outcomes
- Work closely with partners and senior attorneys on complex commercial disputes
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
- Active California Bar admission in good standing
- 3-5 years of litigation experience preferred
- Experience drafting pleadings, motions, briefs, and other substantive legal filings
- Experience managing discovery, including e-discovery, document review, and written discovery
- Experience assisting with or taking and defending depositions
- Exposure to commercial litigation, business disputes, or complex civil litigation preferred
- Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills
- Excellent academic credentials
- Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Federal clerkship experience is a plus but not required
