Job Title: Sr. Portfolio Advisor, Global Family Office Group
Job Description:
Northern Trust's Global Family Office Group is a 40-year-old full-service family office provider- investment and non-investment related - and manages $200bn for 500+ families globally. The GFO Investment Practice is part of the Northern Trust Wealth Management business and leverages the NT Wealth Management investment platform.
This position will be the primary portfolio advisor for 10-15 family office portfolios over time, with numerous beneficiaries and interested parties within each relationship. The role requires familiarity with family office structures, trust types, sophisticated investment vehicles, and all investment asset classes. The SPA also partners closely with Northern Trust Asset Management OCIO partners on client relationships and investment implementation.
Primary Responsibilities
$164,600.00 - $225,000.00 USD
Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.

Primary Responsibilities
- Manage investment activities for a full set of large and sensitive high net worth personal trusts and individual investment portfolios
- Develop, recommend, and direct the execution of investment allocations and manager selection for family office clients.
- Analyze and plan the overall investment strategy with continuous revision as goals and objectives change and in the context of client needs, working closely and proactively with the broader client service team to identify and execute on various investment-related responsibilities.
- Maintain an integral and influential presence within the client-facing team, ensuring communication of client requirements and coordinate portfolio activity.
- Consistently demonstrate mastery with new investment strategies, tools and capabilities, and portfolio research and investment methodologies
- Lead client reporting and communication on a regular basis regarding investments.
- Accountable for personal adherence to best practices as measured by the PM Dashboard and related reporting.
- Accountable for personal execution of initiatives, new capability rollouts, and required investment training as the GFO investment platform further develops.
- Partner with compliance peers to ensure sound governance and risk management processes in investment implementation.
- Serve as a strong team player with a collaborative approach who is excited to be part of a fast-growing, highly successful team serving Northern Trust Wealth Management's largest family office clients.
- Act as an individual contributor with no management responsibility but is expected to continuously contribute to progress and best practice development alongside the investment team.
- Knowledge of investment and portfolio management theory and execution options, accounting and financial principles, associated investment strategies and instruments, and all asset classes.
- Experience managing family office or ultra-high net worth portfolios with performance responsibility across multiple market cycles, including experience advising clients in protracted down markets.
- Strong alternatives experience across all asset classes at the fund/manager level and deep client engagement skills are required.
- The successful candidate will have the ability to translate complexity into simplicity for individuals in the format that works best for them, and the ability to lead client investment relationship reviews, set agendas, and drive toward investment goals.
- Minimum 15 years of investment, asset allocation or research experience, alongside client experience in an ultra high net worth or family office setting.
