Are you an experienced technical leader who enjoys building and supporting high-performing engineering teams while remaining close to technology?

We're looking for a Technical Lead to join our growing Digital Advisor Experience team, helping shape the future of digital services for advisers across Royal London. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a multidisciplinary engineering squad and play a key role in the delivery of a new adviser portal that will support multiple business areas across the organisation.

About the role

You'll lead a team of front-end engineers, back-end engineers and testers, providing technical direction, coaching and leadership while helping deliver modern digital solutions for advisers. The role combines people leadership, technical oversight and delivery responsibility, making it ideal for someone who enjoys balancing strategy with hands-on technical involvement.

This role sits within the Advisor Experience function, which is creating a unified adviser portal experience, supporting advisers across a range of Royal London business areas.

What you'll be doing
  • Leading and developing a cross-functional engineering squad.
  • Providing technical leadership across front-end, back-end and cloud technologies.
  • Supporting engineers and testers to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Working closely with stakeholders to shape technical direction and delivery priorities.
  • Helping establish and grow our technology presence in Alderley Park.
  • Contributing to the growth of a newly expanding team and capability.

What we're looking for

We're interested in hearing from candidates who can demonstrate:
  • Previous experience leading software engineering teams.
  • Strong technical knowledge across modern application delivery environments.
  • Experience working with:
    • Angular
    • SQL
    • Azure cloud platforms
    • .Net based API's
  • The ability to coach, mentor and support engineers.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Confidence operating independently and making sound technical decisions.
  • Financial services background is desirable, but we're open to candidates from a variety of sectors who can bring strong technical leadership and delivery experience.

Why join us?

This is an opportunity to:
  • Play a key role in a major digital transformation programme.
  • Lead technology that will be used across multiple business areas.
  • Shape and influence a growing engineering team.
  • Work with modern technologies and cloud platforms.
  • Join a supportive and collaborative technology community with opportunities to grow your leadership career.

If you feel you'd be a great fit for Royal London but don't meet every requirement, we'd still love to hear from you. Research shows some candidates are less likely to apply unless they meet 100% of the criteria - if you meet most requirements and are keen to learn, we encourage you to apply!
