We're looking for a Trading Underwriter with experience in Property & Liability to join our Existing Business team. This is an excellent opportunity to grow a profitable portfolio while building strong broker relationships and delivering great customer outcomes.

You'll be empowered to underwrite within your authority, supported by a structured onboarding and development journey that helps you build confidence and capability at the right pace. This role offers a strong mix of technical underwriting, broker engagement, and collaboration across the wider business.

A bit about the job:

Your role will evolve as you develop, with full support to ensure you're set up for success:

• Supporting team inboxes, handling queries, and managing simple mid-term adjustments and renewals
• Progressively reviewing and underwriting your own renewal portfolio as your authority grows
• Developing underwriting rationale and decision-making skills through structured workbooks
• Building and maintaining strong broker relationships, with opportunities for face-to-face engagement (around 4 hours per month)
• Collaborating with colleagues to deliver the best outcomes for customers
• Supporting team activity, including audits, meetings, and shared objectives
• Opportunity to join the "Hunt Group" to support inbound broker calls

Your development journey:

We provide a structured and supportive onboarding experience tailored to you:

• Initial focus on systems training, team introductions, and building your internal network
• A dedicated buddy for day-to-day guidance and support
• Gradual introduction to underwriting via guided workbooks and experienced colleagues
• Early exposure to smaller renewal cases before moving to full case ownership
• Support in achieving underwriting licences and authorities within your first 6 months
• Workloads aligned to your experience to ensure steady, manageable progression

Commercial Lines Academy - Your Development

What you'll be working on:

• A varied portfolio aligned to brokers, including a mix of national and regional relationships
• Exposure to different levels of risk complexity depending on your experience and licence level

• A portfolio shaped by complexity and trading focus, rather than fixed volumes

Skills and experience we're looking for:

• Experience underwriting Property & Liability risks, with the ability to assess and balance risk and opportunity
• Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills with brokers and stakeholders
• Commercially minded with confident decision-making and the ability to articulate underwriting rationale
• Good organisation and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise in a fast-paced environment
• Understanding of FCA regulations and experience working within a large, complex organisation

• Salary: £35K-£50K (depending on location, skills, experience, and qualifications)
