Role Purpose:

To provide expert first line oversight of Transaction Monitoring across the business, delivering high quality investigation outcomes and supporting the ongoing enhancement of AML transaction monitoring controls. The role will act as a subject matter expert in transaction monitoring, leading the development and optimisation of monitoring typologies, applying risk based judgement to alerts and investigations, and supporting the effectiveness of the wider 1LoD Financial Crime framework.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and support the development, refinement, and ongoing optimisation of AML and fraud transaction monitoring typologies and threat-based scenarios, leveraging internal data and intelligence from the 2LoD Investigations team.
  
• Conduct transaction monitoring, identifying, investigating, and escalating to the 2LoD Investigations team, potentially suspicious activity in line with risk appetite and regulatory expectations.
  
• Perform and oversee complex Level 1 transaction monitoring alert reviews, ensuring consistent, well-reasoned disposition and documentation.
  
• Apply strong risk-based judgement to investigation outcomes, escalating suspicious activity to the 2LoD Investigations team.
  
• Act as a subject matter expert, providing guidance and challenge to colleagues on transaction monitoring, fraud risk indicators, and investigative best practice.
  
• Support the implementation and embedding of robust TM and Fraud typologies and controls across relevant business areas, contributing to continuous improvement of the control environment.
  
• Maintain up to date knowledge of regulatory developments, emerging financial crime risks, and industry best practice, proactively sharing insights to upskill the wider team.
  
• Work collaboratively across teams to support effective controls, improved customer outcomes, and a measurable reduction in operational and financial crime risk.
  

Skills & Experience Required:

• Significant hands-on experience in AML Transaction Monitoring within a first line Financial Crime function, including alert investigation, disposition and escalation activities.
  
• Proven experience developing, refining and enhancing transaction monitoring typologies, scenarios and monitoring rules.
  
• Experience within Asset Management, Investment Management, Wealth Management, Platform Services or Funds environments is strongly preferred.
  
• Strong understanding of AML, CTF, sanctions and KYC regulations, with the ability to apply regulatory requirements within a transaction monitoring and investigations environment.
  
• Demonstrable experience investigating complex and potentially suspicious transactional activity and making risk based decisions.
  
• Experience working within operational Financial Crime teams, managing escalations, exception handling and regulatory driven deadlines.
  
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex findings and recommendations to stakeholders at all levels.
  
• Strong organisational and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage multiple investigations and competing priorities.
  
• Proven ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues and stakeholders, taking ownership of monitoring outcomes and controls.
  
• Relevant professional qualifications such as ACAMS, ICA or equivalent would be advantageous.
  
• A pragmatic and solutions focused mindset, balanced with a strong commitment to regulatory compliance and effective risk management.
  
• Ability to operate effectively within a hybrid, diverse and multi-cultural working environment.
