Comprising 1,650 researchers spread across 14 Research Centres around the world, our Global R&D team aims to continuously improve the quality of steel and its manufacturing processes. This involves investigating and developing disruptive technologies, reducing the carbon footprint of steel, and optimizing costs while maintaining uncompromising quality. The team's strong multicultural diversity, with over 30 nationalities, offers international experience and makes it possible to meet global needs.
Process Engineering represents a pillar of Process R&D, bringing together around 50 skilled researchers working both in Process and Products-Process activities. Process Engineering provides essential and transversal expertise that covers the entire production route, from upstream process design to final product industrialisation.
Its areas of expertise-ranging from advanced multiphysics numerical simulation, electromagnetism, and granular flow to thermodynamics, solidification, surface phenomena, energy management and analytical chemistry-are both critical and scarce. In addition, the team is responsible for key digital and modelling assets, which are widely used and contribute to process mastering and decision-making efficiency.
We are looking for an experienced and visionary Head of Process Engineering Department to lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers and researchers dedicated to developing, optimizing, and industrializing innovative process technologies.

About the Team
Within this context, you will be working for Maizières Process research centre located in Maizières-lès-Metz (France) which main mission is to contribute to ArcelorMittal's production lines competitiveness and sustainability by the development or improvement of innovative processes or processing routes (from Ironmaking to metallic coating). The objectives of the laboratory are answering the needs of our operations (mineral processing, steel upstream operations, steel downstream operations, product quality, transversal issues). We are able to offer new technologies, standard solutions, technical assistances and knowledge building.

Your role
You will combine strong technical understanding of steelmaking, leadership skills, and strategic vision to drive the department innovation capacity, operational performance and technical excellence. The key missions are:
- Establish and maintain the tools, processes, and resources required to ensure effective health, safety, and environmental (HSE) management within their scope of responsibility.
- Ensure compliance with Quality management system, timely delivery of research results with the required level of quality and maintain the satisfaction of internal and external customers.
- Manage human and material resources to ensure the successful execution of the R&D activities.
- Define/maintain/acquire current and future skill needs
- Prepare investment plans to support the R&D program evolution and the strategic priorities of Global R&D
- Ensure capitalization, preservation, and transfer of knowledge
- Oversee relationships between the department internal stakeholders (Portfolio and ArcelorMittal sites) as well as external partners.
- Ensure alignment of activities with R&D Portfolio team
- Ensure effective internal communication and promote the key achievements
Your profile
- You hold a Master's degree in a process engineering field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in process engineering, manufacturing, or industrial R&D, combined with significant and proven experience in leading multidisciplinary technical teams is required. A strong managerial background is mandatory.
- You have a proven track record in technology development and industrial implementation, as well as solid experience managing complex projects and stakeholders.
- You demonstrate a strong understanding of industrial processes and process optimization methods. Knowledge of process simulation and digitalization would be considered an advantage.
- You are fluent in English.
- You are recognized for your strong problem-solving, analytical capabilities, strategic thinking and effective stakeholder management.
- You possess excellent communication and influencing skills.
- You have the ability to work in an international environment.
