Company Profile
A growing global technology company serving the luxury and consumer goods sector, with a presence across the US, Asia, and beyond, is looking for its first dedicated HR professional in Japan.
The Role
- This is the first dedicated HR hire on the ground in Japan. Until now, HR has been handled by the Country Head on top of running the business, so you will own and build the local People function from the ground up.
- Reporting into the global HR team and partnering closely with the Japan Country Head, you will act as the local bridge between global HR and Japan employees.
- Scope spans the full employee lifecycle: onboarding and offboarding, monthly payroll coordination with vendors, social insurance and year-end adjustment, benefits administration, and statutory compliance.
- You will also coordinate local IT and workplace setup with the global IT team, manage asset tracking, and drive culture and engagement initiatives on the ground.
Your Skills
- 3 to 6 years of experience in HR operations and payroll in Japan.
- Strong, hands-on knowledge of Japanese labor law, payroll, and statutory compliance is mandatory.
- Fluent Japanese and business-level English are mandatory.
- Experience working with a global or centralized HR model in a matrix organization is highly preferred.
- Exposure to general affairs, IT and workplace coordination, or employee engagement is a plus.
- A self-starter with an ownership mindset, comfortable building structure and working independently.
Key Highlights of the Role
- Build the Japan HR function from the ground up as the first HR hire in the country.
- Own a broad, varied remit across HR operations, payroll, general affairs, and culture rather than a narrow specialist scope.
- Join a fast-growing global company with a stable track record and no history of layoffs, even through downturns.
- Work with a lean, high-calibre Japan team and partner directly with an impressive Country Head.
