The Role We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Chief Risk Officer (CRO) to join a leading commodities trading house. This is a strategic leadership role requiring deep expertise in commodity markets, market and credit risk management, operational risk, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance. Responsibilities Market & Trading Risk
- Oversee market risk management across physical and derivative commodity trading activities.
- Monitor trading exposures, Value-at-Risk (VaR), stress testing, scenario analysis, and position limits.
- Challenge trading strategies and ensure adherence to approved risk limits.
- Evaluate and manage risks arising from price volatility, basis risk, liquidity risk, and concentration exposures.
- Develop and maintain robust counterparty credit assessment frameworks.
- Approve credit limits and monitor counterparty exposures.
- Assess country, sovereign, and geopolitical risks impacting trading activities.
- Oversee collateral management, guarantees, and credit mitigation strategies.
- Identify and assess operational risks across trading operations, logistics, supply chain, settlements, and technology.
- Lead business continuity planning and crisis management initiatives.
- Oversee incident management, root cause analysis, and remediation efforts.
- Ensure effective internal controls and risk monitoring processes are maintained.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience within commodities trading / energy trading, or related financial markets
- Proven leadership experience in a senior risk management role, preferably as CRO, Head of Risk, or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of physical and derivatives trading across energy, metals, agricultural commodities, or bulk commodities.
- Deep expertise in market, credit, liquidity, operational, and enterprise risk management.
- Strong knowledge of risk measurement methodologies including VaR, stress testing, and scenario analysis.
- Familiarity with commodity trading and risk management (CTRM) systems.
