Our client, a leading health insurance company is looking for an Associate Director of Tax. This role will lead income tax compliance and reporting for a complex insurance organization. You'll oversee both GAAP and statutory tax provisions, manage federal/state filings, and play a key role in tax planning and strategic initiatives. This position partners closely with senior tax leadership and broader finance teams.
Responsibilities:
- Own quarterly and annual GAAP (ASC 740) and statutory tax provision processes
- Review federal, state, and local tax returns and estimates across insurance entities and holding companies
- Manage relationships with external advisors and auditors
- Oversee tax audits, notices, and related correspondence
- Ensure accuracy and integrity of tax reporting through systems and process improvements
- Support tax forecasting, planning, and project-based work
- Partner with finance and business teams on tax-related matters
- Stay current on insurance tax developments and educate internal stakeholders
- Identify and implement tax planning opportunities
- Drive automation and process improvements within tax
- Ensure compliance across all applicable tax regulations
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
- 7+ years of tax experience (public accounting or corporate tax)
- Strong knowledge of ASC 740
- Ability to work with U.S. tax code and regulations
- Prior leadership or team management experience
Preferred:
- CPA and/or Master's in Tax
- Experience with statutory reporting (SSAP 101)
- Background in insurance tax
- Experience with tax provision software
- Strong data and analytical skills
- Exposure to state tax and nexus considerations
