A long-serving Citi MD has jumped to Standard Chartered in Singapore.

Standard Chartered nabs 23-year Citi veteran for MD job in Singapore

Citi veteran Tara Mirchandani has resurfaced as Standard Chartered’s global chief financial officer for retail banking, private banking and wealth management.

Mirchandani joined Stan Chart last month at managing director rank after about a year’s break from the industry, and has relocated from the US to Singapore, according to her LinkedIn profile.

She left Citi in July 2019 following a nine-month stint as the bank’s New York-based CFO for global consumer banking strategy and fintech.

Mirchandani held a number of senior roles at the US bank, which she joined back in 1996. She worked in financial institutions M&A during her early career, reaching director level in that field. Mirchandani was promoted to MD in 2008, in a corporate M&A role that she held until 2011.

She then worked in global resolution planning for two and a half years, before pivoting her career and taking her first CFO job, for Citi’s US retail bank, in 2014.

Mirchandani has joined Standard Chartered as the divisions under her remit suffered a decline in first half profits, mainly due to the bank setting aside money to cover bad loans. H2 profits before tax in private banking fell 44% to $56m, while in retail banking they were down 48% to $326m, according to the firm’s financial results.
