Goldman Sachs’ new Singapore ED comes from DBS

The merry-go-round of senior cloud talent in the Singapore banking sector shows no signs of slowing down. Earlier this month Brent Cetinich joined Goldman Sachs from DBS in an executive director-level cloud role.

Cetinich had been with the Singaporean lender since September 2019 as an SVP and public cloud enablement lead. He built DBS’s internal cloud advisory and consulting practice that partners with the firm’s business units to “guide cloud business cases, architecture, security, project delivery, governance and operations”, according to his LinkedIn profile.

His new bank, Goldman Sachs, has also been building its cloud abilities, notably by announcing a partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) last November to provide cloud services for trading firms. In Singapore, which is a technology hub for the US bank, Goldman is currently hiring for cloud roles, including a program manager for cloud migration and a cloud-platform software engineer. The latter sits within the “cloud enablement team”, which is responsible for enabling the use of public cloud services across the firm, according to Goldman’s careers site.

Cetinich is not the only recent cloud professional to move firms in Singapore of late. As we reported last week, OCBC has hired Wilkinson Chew from AWS as its head of cloud service engineering. Last year Brendan Royal joined Standard Chartered from AWS as global chief architect, while Carl Bachman Kharazmi joined the same bank as global head of cloud engineering and platforms, having been Google’s Singapore-based cloud engineering lead.

These moves come amid surging demand for cloud talent in the Singapore finance sector. OCBC is hiring cloud engineers into a “growing team that builds the bank’s cloud-native platforms and enables the organisation to build and run their applications in this new environment”, according to its careers website. Citi, DBS, and UOB are also recruiting.
