Man with super-hot skills leaves Standard Chartered in Singapore

Standard Chartered executive director Andrew Nelson has moved to Actis, a global investor in sustainable infrastructure.

Nelson joined Actis – which covers the private equity, energy, infrastructure, and real estate sectors – in September as a principal, focusing on energy investments in South East Asia.

He had been with Standard Chartered since 2019 and specialised in cleantech coverage. His previous roles include a stint of about three years at KPMG Singapore as an associate director in the global infrastructure and projects group.

Nelson is part of a small Singapore-based team at London-headquartered Actis, which includes Adrian Mucalov, head of long-life infrastructure, and Asanka Rodrigom, head of South East Asia private equity.

As we’ve previously reported, people who have experience in ESG (environmental, social, and governance) are in high demand but short supply in Singapore, so Nelson will likely be missed at Standard Chartered.

But Stand Chart has also been hiring in ESG. Jatin Sarvaiya, for example, joined the firm in June as director of its net zero programme.

Banks including BNP Paribas, Deutsche Bank, ING and Citi have been making ESG appointments in Singapore, as have buy-side players such as Abrdn, Robeco and Schroders.
