Citi's latest new Deutsche Bank MD is in New York

Citi needs more managing directors (MD)s. Vis Raghavan, head of its investment bank, declared in May that Citi still had 100 fewer investment banking MDs than the "75th percentile of its core peer group." This might be fine, except that Raghavan presumably wants Citi to be in the top 25% and has therefore promised to add new senior people "in the near term."

One of those senior people is Ben Selinger. Selinger, who is based in New York, has just joined Citi as an MD in equity capital markets (ECM). Selinger previously spent 15 years at Deutsche Bank, where he began life as an analyst in the Sydney office and was promoted to MD in New York in 2024.

Citi has some other ECM people from Deutsche Bank, too. Ed Sankey, Citi's new head of EMEA ECM spent 15 years at Deutsche Bank before joining HSBC in 2019 and then Citi in August 2025.

Citi's US ECM business has undergone quite changes. In February 2025, North American ECM co-heads Paul Abrahimzadeh and Russell Chong both quit for jobs on the buyside. Citi promptly hired Bernal Vargas from JPMorgan in New York to replace them.

Raghavan himself is an ECM banker by trade. So too is Achtinya Mangla, whom Raghavan hired from JPMorgan and made head of all forms of financing. Mangla and Raghavan have also hired Alok Gupte from JPMorgan as the London-based co-head of global capital markets, alongside Citi lifer Douglas Adams.

Adams is in New York too. Selinger will need to navigate the various ex-JPMorgan people alongside the Citi veterans.
