HFT interns earning $60k in 10 weeks are on better salaries than Jane Street quants

Algorithmic trading firms like Jane Street are known for their wild pay, not just for senior traders but for interns too. Despite Jane Street bumping up pay for its interns in 2026 to $5.8k per week, another rival is offering even more.

Susquehanna International Group (SIG) is offering a weekly salary of $6k to PhD machine learning interns in New York, as well as PhD quantitative research interns. The program lasts ten weeks, meaning a total salary of $60k in addition to "a signing bonus, housing, breakfast and lunch, and other perks."

The machine learning intern will be working with "complex datasets" and will be tasked with "develop[ing] ML models to identify patterns in noisy, non-stationary data." SIG is one of many high-frequency trading (HFT) firms that have been expanding their machine learning capabilities in recent years; rivals like Jane Street and XTX Markets have amassed fleets of GPUs in the thousands and tens of thousands, respectively.

Susquehanna's massive pay for its interns is in part due to it being specifically for PhD students. It pays masters level quant interns $5.7k per week and pays undergraduates $5.5k per week. SIG's pay for PhDs does, however, beats salaries for machine learning PhD interns at Citadel Securities, who can earn between $4.3k and $5.8k per week in New York or Miami.

Salary is only one aspect of compensation for these interns, however. Signing bonuses often take up a massive portion of total compensation, and can reach up to $25k depending on the firm.
