Jump Trading paying $175k to "warriors" working 4-day weeks
Want to work at a high frequency trading (HFT) firm like Jump Trading while only working four days per week? You can, but it won't be a relaxing job by any means.

Jump has openings available for production engineers in its 'weekend warrior' team. The openings say hires will work a "modified 4-or-5-day workweek that includes Saturday and Sunday." You won't work every weekend, rather "the equivalent of a third of weekends in a year" on a pre-agreed schedule. Those weekends will involve working 12-hour shifts overlapping with another 'warrior' in other time zones.
What will you do as a production engineer? You work across the tech stack solving problems as they arise for various departments. If the experience is anything like rival electronic trader Jane Street, your experience will be akin to a "puzzle hunt."
Jane Street production engineer Liora Friedberg previously spoke on the firm's 'Signals & Threads' podcast about what production engineers do, and the experience can vary wildly. If you're working on something like exchange support, the work will be "really high-energy, fast-paced [and] heart pumping," but if you're working on something less time-critical like post-trade analytics, you have a little more breathing room.
Friedberg said "strong communication" is one of the key tenets for a production engineer, as you'll act as the "glue" between various teams.
Jump's 'weekend warrior' openings are available in its Chicago, New York, Sydney and Singapore offices, although it also has a production engineering team in London too. In New York, the role has a salary range of $150k to $175k, and engineers are eligible for a discretionary bonus.
Glassdoor reviews for production engineers at Jump Trading say they have "good work-life balance" and praise the design of the firm's infrastructure, but note that the culture is too siloed, which can make it difficult to obtain the right information to solve problems.
