UBS’ veteran operations chief in Singapore left for HSBC

Keith Yong joined HSBC last week to lead its operations team in Singapore. He joined the bank from Swiss rival UBS, where he spent 20 years in its operations team. He was made an MD in 2024, and was most recently the bank’s head of global wealth management front support office in APAC.
HSBC is one of the better places to be in Singaporean wealth management. Bloomberg reported earlier this week that the bank was expanding its wealth management presence in the city at the expense of its retail efforts and was even converting retail branches into wealth centres for the push.
UBS has been restructuring. It shut thousands of smaller (under $2m) accounts that it inherited from Credit Suisse in the region in 2023 – the same year that it was embroiled in a $2.3bn money laundering scandal in the city state. It’s also cutting jobs in Singapore; Bloomberg reporting earlier this month that even 25+ year veterans of the bank are on the chopping block.
