London quant trading firm said to offer £200k salaries to junior hires

As we have noted here often in recent weeks, electronic trading firms are where the big profits and the big pay are to be found now. As it competes, one smaller London electronic trading firm is understood to be hiking salaries, including for graduate recruits.

Insiders claim that G-Research, the secretive London quantitative trading firm with a reputation for generous pay, has become more generous still. Junior hires at the university leaver level are thought to be receiving salaries of £200k ($271k).

G-Research didn't respond to multiple attempts to validate this. If true, it would suggest that the firm is paying its juniors higher salaries than the likes of Jane Street or Citadel Securities.

£200k refers to salaries alone. G-Research junior entrants also receive bonuses, but sources claim that the process by which these bonuses will be calculated can seem opaque.

We reported last month that G-Research has been increasing salaries for existing engineers in an attempt to retain them. G-Research moved various members of its technology team to Dallas in late 2023. Software engineering jobs are now split between London and the US. The firm is currently hiring London software engineering interns for 2026.

G-Research formerly had a complex ownership structure and was listed as Trenchant Ltd. on the UK's Companies House. This has been disbanded, and the firm is now known as Alastair LLP on Companies House, with owners in the Cayman Islands.
