Hedge fund ExodusPoint picked up a new head of risk from a defunct hedge fund
When a hedge fund disappears from the world, at least one group of people are pretty happy: other hedge funds, which can pick up talented people for cheap. One hedge fund that is probably quite happy right now is ExodusPoint.

Mehmet Bayraktar joined ExodusPoint this month as the firm’s head of equity risk, based in New York. He came to ExodusPoint from asset management firm AllianceBernstein’s hedge fund subsidiary, AB Arya Partners, which was shuttered earlier this year.
Bayraktar has a rather lengthy resume. Aside from AllianceBernstein, he was co-head of equity risk for Balyasny, a portfolio construction lead for Point72, and head of equity model research for Citadel, all for around two years or so. Years before that, he was a quant at Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and Barclays, among others.
ExodusPoint has picked up a number of ex-AB Arya people after the fund’s shutdown. Tim Lash and Steve Rettke joined ExodusPoint earlier this year as portfolio managers in TMT and healthcare, respectively. Interestingly, both men were at Millennium before joining AB Arya Partners.
ExodusPoint and Mehmet Bayraktar did not respond to a request for comment.
