Millennium quietly hired the CTO of a major HFT firm to work on nanosecond latency architecture
We've noted in the past that 'high-frequency trading' (HFT) firms are branching out and doing much more than just their namesake. They've been building out teams with hedge fund talent, but the flow of talent isn't one way. Hedge fund Millennium, for example, quietly brought in the chief technology officer of one of the world's largest HFTs earlier this year.

Alexandre Fournier joined Millennium in February. It's not clear what exactly his title is (Millennium did not respond to a request for comment), but indexed job listings on google show him as the hiring manager for an open role in the fund's 'systemic platform execution and exchange data' (SPEED) team. Job listings say the SPEED team works on data architecture "across latency tiers from sub100 nanoseconds to millisecond sensitive workflows."
Fournier was out of the market on gardening leave for the entirety of last year, having departed Tower in December. According to his FINRA profile, he spent nine years officially holding the CTO title, but was most recently its global head of architecture Before Tower, he spent 11 years at SocGen, latterly as its head of IT for high frequency trading.
Although there's a belief that hedge funds and trading firms have varying cultures, Tower bears an interesting similarity to Millennium; they're both pod shops. At Tower, Fournier concurrently held a technology officer title within 'Latour Trading LLC', a subsidiary home to one of its largest pods. Business Insider reported last year that Tower was offering similar agreements to the 'seperately managed accounts' Millennium often gives top traders who want to run their own fund.
Fournier's new team at Millennium is currently hiring for a feature framework engineer. The description says Millennium is looking for a "best in class" C++ engineer, and is offering a salary of up to $250k.
