30-year-old ex-KKR fintech founder on a Revolut & JPMorgan engineer hiring spree
After stints in private equity, investment banking and hedge funds, then-28-year-old Alexis Augier struck out on his own to found London-based wealth management fintech Vega. At 30, the risk seems to be paying off for the Frenchman; Vega has just completed a $20m series A funding round led by Apollo in a still-difficult market for startup funding. Vega will now, presumably, embark on a rush of hiring.

Augier didn't respond to a request to comment for this article but Vega is currently advertising 5 job openings. It's in the process of building AltOS, an operating system for alternative asset management. Vega employed 17 people at the end of last year and has since doubled its headcount. - At least 16 people have joined the firm this year, predominantly in the form of software engineers joining from investment banks and fintechs.
Vega has an affinity for JPMorgan engineers. It hired William Freeman, a VP in the bank's payments team, last month. Back in February, it also hired associate engineer Teodor Pintea.
Vega recently hired two senior software engineers from Deutsche Bank: Gary Smith and Vadim Isaev joined in August and September respectively. Vega's CTO, Anton Batiaev, previously spent a year as a software engineering team lead in Deutsche Bank's risks and derivatives team.
Batiaev was also previously head of Revolut's wealth and trading platform and he's been hiring from Revolut too. Vega hired senior frontend engineer Pavel Marianov from Revolut in April and senior backend engineer Andrei Andriiuk from Revolut last month. Vega also hired senior engineer Giambattista Pieritti, from fintech Checkout.com last month.
Augier is still hiring at Vega. He says he's "playing to win" and wants to build "one of the best product and engineering teams in fintech." If you're one of the banking engineers being courted over to fintech, be warned: last time we spoke to Augier, he said the work he's been doing at Vega has been harder than any of his previous roles.
