There are many ways to work with a hedge fund, not all of which involve becoming an official employee. Independent traders and portfolio managers for smaller hedge funds have an opportunity to make some extra cash by handing off their ideas to one of the major multistrategy funds who will then give it to the PMs managing billion dollar books.
