Male Credit Suisse MD resurfaces with female empowerment site

It's been a while since we wrote about Rob Maloney, a former MD at Credit Suisse. The last time was in 2018, when - fresh from leaving Credit Suisse after nearly two decades, Maloney became co-proprietor of Graffik Gallery, a Portobello Road-based street art gallery. Now Maloney is turning his hand to something else again.

This winter, Maloney is launching Glorious, a digital lifestyle and community platform for women's sport which describes itself as a, 'A global membership platform that uses women’s sport as a catalyst to uplift & inspire.' It's already posting to its Instagram account here. 

"We are giving women’s sport the spotlight it deserves with a commitment to making a real difference in the way it is often portrayed," says Maloney in a LinkedIn in post on the new venture. He tells us it's a continuation of his existing passion for sport and that he's a "a keen alpine climber and road biker."

While Maloney himself is male, as is CEO and co-founder Martin Root, he says the management team is "predominantly female." 

"We want to celebrate, inspire and empower women with content and great aesthetics," says Maloney. "We will support charities, grass roots sports and sponsor athletes. We’ll have collaborations, offers and events (once COVID allows) for our members. We believe women should have this platform and we want to showcase and celebrate them and enact change. "

During his time in banking, Maloney was a swaps trader at Deutsche and then an MD in flow equity swaps and stock loan trading at Credit Suisse. While some ex-traders run restaurant businesses or bars, Maloney seems to have settled upon arts and culture for his post-finance identity.
