Goldman Sachs hired a Morgan Stanley executive director and promoted him to MD
A career in banking can be harsh and unpredictable. Not everyone has a straight path to the top and you may occasionally have to swallow your pride and take a step down. Ross Cohen, a healthcare banker, did that early in his career, but has reversed his fortunes by taking an MD promotion and a move to Goldman Sachs in one fell swoop.

Cohen, based in New York, joined Goldman Sachs as an MD in healthcare banking this week according to FINRA's BrokerCheck tool. He spent the last five and a half years at Morgan Stanley, joining as an associate but working his way up to executive director. He reached vice president during that ascent, but it wasn't his first time doing so.
As a junior, Cohen spent five years at boutique bank Torreya. He joined as an analyst and was promoted twice there, working as a VP for just three months before eventually leaving. He then joined Lazard's San Francisco banking team... as an associate.
Goldman reshuffled its healthcare banking team early last year, appointing Peter van der Goes, Yassaman Salas and James Sinclair as co-heads. It might be looking to expand its team due to an increase in activity in the sector; a JPMorgan report last month said that the healthcare industry is "ripe" for M&A deals despite global volatility. Cohen wasn't the first big hire this year; Goldman brought in Guggenheim senior MD Jennie Xue in January.
