JPMorgan's 31 new trading, quant and sales managing directors: revealed

JPMorgan has inducted its latest group of executive directors and VPs into the big time. In its markets division, 31 people have been promoted to managing director (MD), one more than it promoted in 2024. Of those markets MDs, more than half are located outside of New York: eight are based in Europe, five in APAC, and three based across other US offices.

Four MDs are explicitly working in quantitative research and trading, but others have quant backgrounds. Some, like Tokyo-based head of fixed income linear trading Yasuhiro Nishikawa, have financial engineering master's degrees. Nishikawa's is from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, while others graduated from the likes of Bocconi in Italy. One new MD, Shalabh Agrawal, is the co-head of global exotics trading and works with one of the bank's quantitative investment strategies (QIS) teams. Bloomberg reported this month that the total QIS unit has amassed a trading book of $100b.

Some of the new MDs aren't traders, quants or salespeople. Manish Jain in Jersey City is a development lead that previously worked on big data architecture for Citi. John Schlegel is head of the 'positioning intelligence' team, which the bank says creates "written reports and data feeds focused on cross-asset positioning, flows, crowdedness and performance."

There aren't any unusually young new MDs in the markets team. The youngest appears to be Moulay Jaidi, an energy derivatives trader who graduated in 2012, making him approximately 36.
